Starfish specimens are an important tool for studying this unique Marine organism. Starfish, belonging to the phylum Echinodermata, have radially symmetrical bodies and usually have five or more tentacle-like limbs. They play a key role in Marine ecosystems, feeding primarily on Marine benthic animals and algae, which are essential for maintaining ecological balance.
The process of preparing a starfish specimen involves several steps. First, the caught starfish needs to be immediately fixed with formaldehyde or alcohol to prevent spoilage and deformation. The fixed starfish needs to be dried, usually by placing it in a desiccant or natural air drying. After drying, the starfish are carefully placed in transparent display boxes with relevant classification information, location and time of capture, etc.
Starfish specimens are of great value in scientific research, helping researchers to analyze the anatomy, living habits and ecological roles of starfish. In addition, they play an important role in education and exhibitions to enable the public to better understand this mysterious sea creature.
