Originating from various species within the family Exocoetidae, flying fish inhabit warm, tropical oceans and are often seen in schools. Their unique aerial abilities are enhanced by specialized adaptations; when they leap out of the water, they spread their fins like wings, allowing them to glide for up to 200 meters. This gliding not only helps them evade predators but also reduces energy expenditure compared to constant swimming.

In addition to their ecological significance, flying fish have inspired creativity in various fields, including art, design, and even technology. The ethereal motion of these fish has influenced models in aerodynamics, leading to innovations in vehicle design that mimic their efficient gliding technique.
