One of the most remarkable aspects of the golden orb-weaver is its web. Typically large and circular, the webs are crafted from golden silk, which glistens in sunlight and can be seen shimmering in gardens and forests. These webs not only serve as traps for unwary insects but also have remarkable strength—far exceeding that of steel of the same diameter. The silk's unique properties have fascinated scientists, inspiring research into potential applications in materials science and medicine.

Golden orb-weavers are generally non-aggressive and pose little threat to humans, despite their sizable presence. They play a vital ecological role as predators, helping control insect populations. Females are known to be larger and more robust than males, often engaging in sexual cannibalism—a behavior where the female consumes the male after mating, likely for nutritional benefits.
