A rock specimen is a rock sample that has been collected, cut and processed for classification, study and display. They are not only important objects of geological research, but also witness to the Earth's history and environmental changes. Rock specimens are generally divided into three main categories: igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks, each with its own unique origin and characteristics.
Igneous rocks are formed by cooling and solidifying magma, such as granite and basalt; Sedimentary rocks, such as sandstone and limestone, are formed by sediment settling in water or air. Metamorphic rocks, such as gneiss and SLATE, are formed by physical and chemical changes of the original rocks under high temperature and pressure.
Rock specimens are of great significance in geological research, they can reveal the earth's structure, mineral resources distribution, paleoclimate change and so on. In addition, rock specimens are often used for education and popular science to help the public better understand earth science and natural phenomena. Through the observation and analysis of rocks, students and enthusiasts are able to gain a deep understanding of the evolution of the Earth and its complexity.
